Project SIS

Project SIS is an organization that seeks to bring attention to a ‘Hidden Disability’ related to undiagnosed functional vision problems.  Words moving around on the page, words and letters disappearing, blurred vision or double vision are some of the challenges experienced by children with these vision problems.  Frequently, children do not realize other readers see the page much differently.  These problems are seldom detected, as there is no part of the special education assessment that specifically addresses this issue.  Once discovered, these vision problems can be corrected through vision therapy, but it is a costly process.  Thus, children from lower income homes seldom receive treatment.

Funding acquired by Project SIS will:

–provide proper vision testing and assessment—–provide vision therapy—–-provide informational seminars and workshops to bring attention and awareness to this issue—-provide transportation to office appointments—provide support services for daily vision therapy practice

What’s happening with Project SIS at this time?

Income from sales of Love is in The Air is currently the major source of funding for Project SIS.  I discuss this project with behavorial optometrists, occupational threapists, vision therapists and the general public.
